Red Hairy Fruit

Today I finally made the trip to the Central de Abastos, one of the largest wholesale markets in the world, which is about 20 minutes from my house. I found a lot of awesome things there. One of the things that I found was a red hairy fruit called Rambutan. While this fruit looks unedible, when the rubbery peal is removed, it kind of looks like a big white grape with a seed in the middle. It even tastes like a grape, only a little sweeter. Oddly enough, the vender told me they are grown in the State of Morelos near Cuernavaca. I don't ever remember seeing them when I lived there. It just goes to show that after almost 9 years in Mexico, I still have a lot to learn.
